MYC Students Awarded Silver Medal at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva
In a remarkable display of innovation and global outreach, students from CCC Ming Yin College have achieved international recognition by securing a Silver Medal in the inaugural Young Talents competition at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva. Held from 11-15 March 2026, this prestigious event brought together 64 teams from around the world, including 21 from Hong Kong, to showcase groundbreaking inventions across various age groups. Our team, competing in the 15-18 age category with 46 other entries, emerged victorious with their innovative VOC Chromosense Patch—a low-cost bandage designed to detect wound infections through a rapid color change.
The Journey Begins: From Local Selection to Global Stage
The path to Geneva started right here in Hong Kong, where our students underwent a rigorous initial selection process. Under the guidance of their teacher, Chan Ping Yiu, the team—comprising Jessica Kwok Pui Yin, Lam Wing Yan, Au Chun Yin, and Cheng Ho Sum—developed their invention as part of a school project rooted in practical problem-solving. The VOC Chromosense Patch addresses a critical need in healthcare by changing color from yellow to purple in just five seconds when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) exceed 30 ppm, indicating potential infection. After excelling in the local evaluations, the team was selected to represent Hong Kong at the international level. The students dedicated months to refining their prototype, conducting tests, and preparing presentations, all while balancing their academic commitments.
An Unforgettable Experience in Geneva
At the exhibition, held at Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland, our students presented their invention at Stand K15 over several days. They engaged in dynamic demonstrations, explaining the science behind the VOC Chromosense Patch to an international audience of judges, inventors, and visitors from diverse countries. Speaking confidently in English, the team showcased their technical expertise and passion for societal impact, highlighting how the low-cost design could benefit underserved communities worldwide.
Accompanying photos capture these inspiring moments: our students demonstrating the bandage’s color-changing mechanism to curious onlookers from Europe, Asia, and beyond; engaging in lively discussions with peers and experts; and receiving enthusiastic praise from judges and attendees. Many commended the invention’s simplicity and potential for real-world application, encouraging the team to pursue further development and commercialization. These interactions not only boosted the students’ confidence but also fostered valuable cross-cultural exchanges, underscoring the exhibition’s role in connecting young minds globally.
Earning the Silver Medal in this fiercely competitive category marks a significant milestone for CCC Ming Yin College, especially as first-time participants in the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva. The award recognizes not just the invention’s ingenuity but also the team’s dedication to creating solutions that “benefit society and help the public,” as they envisioned. Reflecting on the experience, the students expressed immense joy and gratitude, noting how the journey expanded their horizons and reinforced the importance of perseverance in STEAM fields.
Congratulations to the MYC Team for their outstanding achievement.
As we look ahead, CCC Ming Yin College remains committed to nurturing young talents who are ready to tackle global challenges.
